	The GTX 1080 versus the GTX 980Ti, with each computer running the same task: Computer 388357 has a GTX 1080 card, Windows 10 OS and is not running swan_sync =1. It finished the task in 17,409.84 seconds. This computer finished the same task in 16,810.40 seconds. This is slightly faster than the above computer. Nevertheless, I find the performance of the 1080 to be disappointing, so far, compared to 980Ti. It is not cost effective to upgrade from the 980Ti to the 1080, even if you factor in the electricity cost savings. The difference in electrical consumption is 70 watts, which would equal the following cost per year: (70 watts) / (1000 watts/kw) x ($.15 /kw-hour) x (24 hours/day) x (365 days/year) = $91.98/year assuming my calculation is correct. The cost of the 1080 is about $650, which means it would take about 6.5 years to break even. I don’t think the card would last that long. So, I won’t be buying new video cards until my 980Ti’s start failing, and I hope that isn’t too soon!

	The 1080 is not an upgrade for the 980Ti. It's an upgrade to the 980, 970, 780Ti and so on. It might however be a better option for a new system/new GPU, as the performance is comparable to the 980Ti but for ~70W less power consumption. If & when the 1080Ti is released that will most likely be an upgrade to the 980Ti. Also, new apps might yet improve the performance of the 1080. IMO the 1070 and 1080 are still far too expensive. The best GPU in terms of performance/purchase cost is probably the 1060-3GB, but it's a mid range GPU. Similarly, that is an upgrade to a GTX960 (not the 970). 	Also to nvidia 1080ti will not be worth upgrading becouse its price will 900+eu for custom card prodc. 1080ti maybe get 14xxx second for task.. 14000 is very optimistic time)) used market is full of 980Ti for 300 and custom water coler or zotac amp extreme for 400eu.. after new year maybe lower 300- so its great time for upgrade for people I got one 1070 (450eu!) but i have no satisfaction from its performance in all projects in the asppect Rac/price.. maybe only in collatz is it better can get 4M+ day rac or 7970 is unbeatable in milkyway and cost 70-100eu So the situation in BOINC specific. According to the boinc project and you need to buy hardware. -) At folding@home this is clear- fastest gf cards is best in PPD.. like titan x

	For crunchers the GTX 1000 series has brought a reduction in running costs and the price of second hand GTX 900 series GPU's. Without significant competition the prices are not going to change, as the major driving market forces are limited to profit. The 145-120W saving the GTX1060-3GB has over the GTX970, for example, isn't much. In the UK that would only save you ~9p/day or ~£33/year.
