Message boards : Graphics cards (GPUs) : Consistent ACEMD Crashes

For some time now, whenever I come back to my work Windows desktop after letting BOINC run for a while, I see the Windows "an error has occurred in your application" for ACEMD2_*. More recently, this has started happening on my home Windows machine too. I updated the BOINC client from 6.10.58 to 6.12.34 at home, but that hasn't helped. I've been sending crash details (presumably to Microsoft) religiously.

Alex, the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 290 uses a G86 core and only has 16shaders. This card would be incapable of completing any task in time. Your 8800 GT has 112shaders but it's 4 generations old, and fails most tasks. The one task you did recently return was not returned and reported within 5days, so it did not get any credit. In my opinion neither card is up to the rigors of GPUGrid crunching. You might be able to use them on Einstein, if you want.

Thanks to you both for this information! I'll drop the GPUGRID project from my work machine (Quadro NVS 290), and keep an eye on my home machine (GeForce 8800 GT), which after updating the video drivers and resetting the project doesn't appear to be having the crashing issue, unless my wife is just closing out the error message before I see it... but if it's too slow, indeed there's no point in having it there either. (I have to admit I don't run BOINC on that PC 24x7 any more, since the fan noise gets really loud...)
